How do you become the answer Siri gives?
- Voice search
- Siri
- Local visibility
You become the answer Siri gives by getting your business details complete, correct and identical across the data sources voice assistants rely on: your Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect (the data behind Apple Maps and Siri), Bing Places and a set of online business directories. Siri does not show a list of ten blue links. Whoever asks gets one business read out — usually the one whose details are the most complete, consistent and up to date. At that moment, everyone else simply does not exist.
Why does Siri only give one answer?
Think about how people use Siri: driving, walking, hands full in the kitchen. Someone asking "Hey Siri, where can I get my bike fixed nearby?" does not want a menu of options read aloud. A voice assistant is built to decide, not to let you browse.
That fundamentally changes the game for local businesses. With classic Google searches you could sit in position four or five and still win customers. With voice search there is no position four or five. There is the answer — and there is the silence next to it. Every question to Siri where you are not the answer is a customer landing with someone else, usually without you ever knowing.
Make it concrete: if a tourist on the market square asks Siri where to eat tonight, and your restaurant is around the corner but your details are a mess, that table for four simply never existed for you. It did exist — for the restaurant two streets over.
Where does Siri get its answers from?
Siri invents nothing itself. For local questions it leans first on Apple Maps, and you manage that data through Apple Business Connect — the free platform where you claim and complete your listing as the owner. Beyond that, the ecosystem behind the assistants draws on external sources: business directories, review platforms and your Google Business Profile, which in turn feeds Google Assistant.
The key insight: these systems cross-check sources against each other. If one directory lists you as "Baker Street Bakery" at 12 Church Road and another as "Baker St Bakery Ltd" at 12 Church Road Unit 1, confidence in both listings drops. An assistant that has doubts picks a competitor it does not have to doubt.
How do you make your business the obvious answer?
You do not need to be a marketer. This is the work, in order of impact:
- Claim your Google Business Profile and complete it fully: the right category, opening hours, photos, services. It is the single most influential source.
- Claim your business on Apple Business Connect. Surprisingly few local owners have — even though it is the direct line to Siri and Apple Maps.
- Pick one exact spelling of your name, address and phone number and use it everywhere, including on your own website.
- Choose the most specific category you can. "Restaurant" is weak; "Italian restaurant" wins the question "where can I get pasta tonight?".
- Keep your opening hours current, especially around public holidays. "Is the pharmacy open right now?" is one of the most common voice questions.
- Collect genuine reviews and reply to them. Assistants weigh reputation signals, and customers sometimes hear your rating read out loud.
- Work through the main business directories and fix old addresses or phone numbers still floating around.

How long before you see results?
The honest answer: think weeks to a few months, not days. Data sources sync slowly, and assistants build trust gradually as your details keep matching everywhere. That is also the good news: whoever starts today builds a head start a competitor cannot close with one quick fix. Most local businesses never do this work at all.
What if your competitor is already the answer?
Then you now know why that business "is always busy". It does not mean the race is over — it means their data is currently more complete or more consistent than yours. That is not talent, that is maintenance. And maintenance is something you can take over.
Start at the beginning: measure where you stand. Run the free RankPrima Scan — in a few minutes you will see where your business details are missing or contradict each other across the data sources voice assistants rely on, and what to fix first.
